A garage cleanout in Los Angeles means emptying a packed garage and hauling it all away. We do that work across the Westside and the South Bay. Boxes and old furniture come out, along with broken appliances and exercise equipment. Tools, workbenches, yard gear and leftover building material go too. Before anything loads, you show us what stays, and the crew sets it aside. Usable items are sorted out for donation as the garage empties. The rest goes into our own trucks and leaves the same day. Then the crew sweeps the floor, and the garage is yours again.
Southwest Hauling is a licensed demolition and hauling contractor, founded in Los Angeles in 1994. Garage cleanouts are core work for us, along with house demolition and foreclosure cleanouts. For twenty years we held City of Los Angeles contracts clearing foreclosed, vacant and abandoned properties. We run multiple crews with our own trucks and equipment, so the sorting and the haul off are one job. Whole houses, foreclosures, evictions and hoarder jobs run under property cleanouts. A single load of items with no sorting is junk removal. Estimates are free and in person. Licensed and insured, CA License 792182.
Tell us about your project and we will get right back to you.
A garage cleanout covers everything in the garage that you do not want back. That usually means stacks of boxes, old furniture and a broken washer or dryer. Exercise equipment, bikes, tools and a workbench or two come out too. Yard gear lines the walls: rakes, hoses, planters and patio chairs. Many garages also hold leftover building material, like spare lumber and drywall from old projects.
Heavy items are carried out by hand, so you do not have to lift anything. A safe, a chest freezer, a steel workbench or a full weight set is normal work for a demolition crew. When the last load is out, the crew sweeps the floor. This is not an organizing, shelving or cleaning service. The job is to empty the garage and haul away everything you do not keep.
It starts with a free estimate in person. An estimator looks at how full the garage is and what is in it. Access counts too: where a truck can park and how far the crew carries each load. Point out anything heavy and anything you are not sure can go. Then you get one price for the whole job before anything loads.
On the day, your keep pile comes first. Keepsakes, papers and anything you point to get set aside where you want them. Nothing loads until you say go. Then the rest gets sorted with you. Usable items in good shape are pulled out for donation, and everything else is loaded to haul. Stay and decide as you go, or leave the crew a list.
Everything we load leaves in our own trucks the same day, so you never have to rent a dumpster. Metal, like old steel shelving and broken tools, goes to metal recycling. Usable items go to a local donation center when one will take them. What is left goes to a licensed transfer station. By the time the last truck pulls out, the garage is empty.
Some of what sits in a garage cannot go on our truck. Household hazardous waste is the main group. The City of Los Angeles lists paint, motor oil and propane tanks as examples. In California, it is illegal to dispose of hazardous waste in the garbage. Move those items to one side before the job day, and the crew loads around them.
In the City of Los Angeles, residents can drop off household hazardous waste at the City's S.A.F.E. Collection Centers, along with e-waste like computers, TVs and microwaves. The letters stand for solvents, automotive, flammables and electronics. Bel Air, Brentwood, Pacific Palisades and San Pedro are all part of the City of Los Angeles.
The estimator goes over what can and cannot go on the truck, item by item, on the free visit. That leaves time for a drop-off run before the job day. If the crew finds a paint can or a tank nobody mentioned, it stays in the garage for you. Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and Long Beach are separate cities. If you live in one, ask your city where these items go.
Usually there is a date behind it. The house is about to go on the market, or the family is moving. A landlord needs a rental ready for the next tenant. After a garage sale, whatever did not sell can go straight onto the truck. Sometimes you just want room to park the car again. When the garage belongs to a whole house being cleared for an estate, that job is an estate cleanout.
Other garages get cleared before work starts. A garage conversion needs an empty garage before the builder arrives. If the detached garage itself is coming down, the cleanout comes first and house demolition follows. A shed or deck out back is shed removal. One estimate visit can price the cleanout and the demolition together. Debris from a remodel still under way falls under construction cleanup.
Leftover building material counts as construction and demolition waste. In the City of Los Angeles, it must be taken to a City certified construction and demolition waste processing facility. The City's free bulky item pickup, run by LA Sanitation, does not collect construction material. It does take items too large for a normal trash bin, like beds, couches and fridges. So in the City of Los Angeles, you may not need us for a single couch or fridge. Book that pickup at least one business day before your normal collection day.
Our truck yard sits in the South Bay, just north of San Pedro. From there our crews cover Manhattan Beach, Hermosa Beach, Redondo Beach and San Pedro, down into Long Beach. On the Westside we work in Beverly Hills, Bel Air, Brentwood, Santa Monica and Pacific Palisades. That is the whole service area, and each city is listed on our service areas page.
Most of our work today is high-end homes on the Westside and in the South Bay. Crews park where they are told and keep the noise down. Some jobs run under an NDA, and that is routine for us. If you are not home on the day, the job can still run from your list. Call 310-546-4855 or use the quote form on this page for a free estimate.

Debris goes out on our trucks to licensed facilities. We sweep the street, clear the drive and leave the property ready for whatever comes next.

Our own trucks and equipment do the loading and the hauling. Debris leaves on our schedule, not a bin company's. The teardown and the haul-off are one job and one price.
Twenty years of City of Los Angeles contracts clearing foreclosed and vacant properties. That work runs on deadlines and documentation, and the habit stuck. Sites get finished, not abandoned.
Much of our work sits behind gates on the Westside, and NDAs are routine. Crews park where you say, keep the site tidy and do not talk about whose property they are on.
